TALAT MET EROGLU
President Mehmet Ali Talat received the leader of the National Unity Party, Dervis Eroglu, whose party swept to victory in Sunday’s election and a delegation from the Republican Turkish Party headed by the party leader Ferdi Sabit Soyer.
After the meeting, Eroglu told reporters that he had a one and a half hour long meeting with the president during which they discussed problems being faced in the country. He also announced that Mehmet Ali Talat told him that he will appoint him to form the new government.
Stressing that the negotiations process aimed at finding a solution to the Cyprus problem will continue, Dervis Eroglu said he believes his government will be working with the President in full harmony.
DEPUTIES SHALL RECEIVE THEIR LETTERS OF ACCREDITATION TODAY
The National Unity Party which won 26 seats in the TRNC parliament has enough seats to form a majority government and will most likely be given the task of forming the new government.
President Talat is expected to receive the representatives of the other 3 parties, the Democrat Party, the Social Democrat Party and the Freedom and Reform Party today.
The new Republic’s Assembly will convene on the 1st of May, 10 days after the publication of the official results in the public gazette.
Deputies who gained seats in parliament will be receiving their letters of accreditation today afternoon.
