PRESIDENT TALAT TO MEET WITH HILLARY CLINTON ON WEDNESDAY

President Mehmet Ali Talat will be flying to Washington on 14 April for a historic visit.

He will come together with the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on 15 April upon an invitation from Mrs Clinton herself.

The meeting between the two will be realized at 3.15pm Wednesday afternoon American local time.

The next Talat-Christofias meeting which had been scheduled to take place on Wednesday next week has now been postponed to a further date.

The President will return to the Republic at the week-end.

CHRISTOFIAS WARNED DOWNER: “DON’T GIVE TOO MUCH HOPE”

Greek Cypriot weekly Kathimerini reported that the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias because of Downer’s recent statement following the last meeting between Talat and Christofias, invited UN Special Envoy Alexander Downer to the Greek Cypriot Presidential Palace and expressed his concerns about his statements increasing the expectations of the people.

According to the news, Christofias brought to the attention of Downer the issue of creating too much optimistic environment. After the last Talat-Christofias meeting, Christofias didn’t agree with Downer’s explanation to the effect that a real progress was achieved and an agreement was reached for the first time since 1974.

Greek Cypriot side pointed out that the situation was not as encouraging as was tried to be displayed because there were still remaining important obstacles, which should be solved on significant issues such as property, and administration and that sensitive issues such as territory and security were not still discussed.

GREEK CYPRIOTS TO “OCCUPY” ISTANBUL !

Greek Cypriot daily Simerini reported that many Greek Cypriots are planning to travel to Turkey for the Easter holiday. According to the news, the second stop of the one fifth of the Greek Cypriot Easter reservations is İstanbul.

According to the news, this year 13 500 Greek Cypriots will visit İstanbul in the Easter time excluding those who will travel directly from Ercan Airport.
