ERCAKICA: ‘WHY DID YOU COME TO THE TABLE?’

Presidential Spokesman Hasan Ercakıca said: ‘ Cyprus problem is a problem which can be solved by mutual concessions from the two sides. If the Greek Cypriot side is claiming it has no concessions to make, then it’s presence at the negotiation table is meaningless. Greek Cypriot side should stop to make manipulations and take place at the negotiation table seriously’.

Ercakıca denied the Greek Cypriot side’s accusations that the President had violated agreed principle of ‘refraining from making statements concerning the negotiations’

Moreover, pointing out that no decisions were taken during the meeting held on 11 September, Ercakıca added ‘President Talat made a proposal on this issue. Greek Cypriot side welcomed this proposal quietly so President Talat accepted it as they have taken the decision and spokesmen of the Greek Cypriot side has started a campaign.

PRESIDENT TALAT TO MAKE A SPEECH AT PACE

It was stated that President Mehmet Ali Talat will make a speech at 1 October session of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly.

President Talat will leave the TRNC on 30 September to go to the PACE meeting in Strasbourg .

TALAT “ISOLATION COULD NOT PREVENT ADVANCEMENT OF OUR LAW IN PARALLEL WITH WORLD LAW”

2008 Judicial Year has started yesterday with a ceremony with the participation of TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat in Atatürk Cultural Centre in Lekosa.

Speaking in the ceremony, President Talat pointed out that important annoyances and difficulties were expected in the process of peace and solution, and the law had an important position during this process.

Talat stated that advancement of the Turkish Cypriot law in parallel with the world law could not be obstructed although the Turkish Cypriot people were isolated from the world, and added that attention should be given to this issue in the next process.

President complained that the 1985 Constitution could not be changed, and said “we made such a constitution that it is like a holy book and nobody can touch it”.

VISIT OF USA NEW AMBASSADOR TO TRNC PRIME MINISTER

TRNC Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer accepted the newly appointed Ambassador of the USA to Cyprus Frank Urbancic in his office in the Prime Ministry.

No statement was made about the meeting however press was permitted to only take photographs.
