ERCAKICA: ‘TURKISH CYPRIOT SIDE WILL WORK WITH FULL CAPACITY FOR THE NEGOTIATIONS’
Spokesman of TRNC Presidency Hasan Ercakıca stated that the Turkish Cypriot Side will work in full capacity for the comprehensive negotiations which will start in 3rd of September and will spend effort to make this the last negotiation process.
Ercakıca said that President Talat believes that there is an efficient atmosphere for the negotiations.
Ercakıca underlined that the insistence of President Talat to reach a solution in 2008 was a realistic target and it may only be delayed to the beginning of 2009.
Also Ercakıca pointed out that if there is a will for a solution it is possible to solve the problem pragmatically and by reducing it to simple terms. For example by using compensation, exchange and return techniques even the property issue would be solved easily.

Spokesman of TRNC Presidency Hasan Ercakıca stated that the people from Asagı Pirgo village in South Cyprus made the application for a divine service in Ay. Mamas Church in Guzelyurt yesterday, and he added that the Turkish Cypriot side, who always behave positively on humanitarian subjects, would reply this demand positively if there is not any obstacle in practice.
Pointing out that the demand of the people from Pirgo was evaluated and the approach in principle was positive, Ercakıca stated that the news published in the Greek Cypriot press was annoying and emphasized that nothing can be obtained with threat.
Saying that “We were always positive on humanitarian subjects. The reflection of such news to the Greek Cypriot press before the application, affects the relation of two peoples, it is really disagreeable”, Ercakıca expressed that if there was not any obstacle, the reply to the application made yesterday would be positive.
1948 CMC MINE STRIKE WAS COMMEMORATED
It was stated that Dev-Is and PEO organized joint activities in order to commemorate 60th anniversary of CMC Mine Strike performed in 1948 by 2,000 Turkish and Greek Cypriot workers. In the statements made at the activities, wishes for finding a solution to the Cyprus problem were expressed. Also, the songs of the Turkish and Greek Cypriot singers enlivened the activities.
According to the written statement made by the Dev-Is Press Office, the importance of the strike performed by the Turkish and Greek Cypriot miners was drawn attention in the activity organized in the Amiantos village near the Trodos Mountains where the miners mostly lived, and it was pointed that as a result of the strike continued for months many rights were granted that are still in force.
DISCIPLINARY PROCEEDING ABOUT OLD BRIGADIER GENERAL
It was stated that disciplinary proceeding would be started for General Kiriaku who cursed the Greek Cypriot National Guard Commander who was removed from Greek Cypriot National Guard Commando Brigade Commandership and assigned to another mission.
Stating that Greek Cypriot Defence Minister Kostas Papakostas qualified the issue as ‘very serious’, Greek Newspaper Haravgi wrote that disciplinary action was proceeded and interrogation officers who would investigate the issue have been determined yesterday.
