PRESIDENT TALAT : “NEGOTIATIONS CANNOT CONTINUE FORVEVER”
President Mehmet Ali Talat noted that Turkeys EU negotiations bid and the Presidential elections in the TRNC will be defining factors during the Cyprus negotiations process.
Drawing attention to the fact that in the following days the economic issue will come to an end and the land issue and guarantee issue will be taken up during the talks, President Talat said ‘these are critical issues’.
Upon being asked what issues had been agreed on during the talks, President Talat said they had reached consensus on many issues and had made good progress.
‘There have been issues that we have agreed on and we haven’t agreed on, what’s important is that we have discussed every issue and we have clarified our positions’, he added.
Noting that the world’s interest in the Cyprus issue is platonic, Talat expressed his disappointment over this stance.
Referring to the Yesilirmak area, the President said that if a gate is opened at this point it would change the fate of the Erenkoy village.
Pointing to the moves that the new government has decided to take concerning history books, Talat said a lot of problems will be experienced if the history books are returned to their former state.
