TALAT: “WE ARE TRYING TO CONTRIBUTE TO PEACE BY BEHAVING IN A FLEXIBLE AND CONSTRUCTIVE MANNER”
The new Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu paid his first official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus yesterday. President Mehmet Ali Talat received Davutoglu and his delegation.
At the joint press conference President Mehmet Ali Talat said that they behaved in a flexible and constructive manner during negotiations which has been conducted on behalf of the Turkish Cypriot people with best of their full efforts. Stating that they would never give up on their sine-qua-non’s, President Talat pointed out that they tried for not only contributing to the peace in Cyprus by solving the Cyprus problem with an agreement, but also for creating a peaceful environment in the region instead of conflict.
The new Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu stated that their perspective on Cyprus was to transform Cyprus to a peace island and Mediterranean to a peace region. Davutoglu added that in order to realize this aim, all parties including international courts have to support constructive efforts of President Talat.
Giving support to the TRNC democracy and negotiations, Davutoglu underlined that Cyprus issue was a UN matter and they would continue to give support to negotiations in this framework.
HASAN BOZER BECOMES SPEAKER OF THE TRNC PARLIAMENT
The National Unity Party Girne-deputy Hasan Bozer has been elected as the new Speaker of the TRNC Parliament.
Yesterday’s session was chaired by the UBP leader Dervis Eroglu who is the oldest member of the parliament.
Bozer was elected with 42 votes in the third round. The position of deputy speaker went to the Republican Turkish Party MP Mustafa Yektaoglu.
TOTAL AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION TO GREEK CYPRIOTS REACHED NEARLY 10 MILLION POUNDS
The Immoveable Property Commission has announced that the total amount of compensation paid to Greek Cypriot applicants in about 3 years reached 9 million, 906 thousand, 600 British Pounds
The Chairperson of Commission Sumer Erkmen stated that the compensation amounts adjudicated separately for every file were paid into the accounts separately opened in the names of related Greek Cypriots.
The number of Greek Cypriots who applied to the Commission for their properties in North Cyprus reached to 390.
ADVISORY BOARD FOR IMMOVABLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF CYPRUS
The Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage established within the framework of Cyprus negotiations made a statement with the mediation of UN Press Spokesperson and announced that it is agreed to form an Advisory Board for the purpose of protecting and preserving the immovable cultural heritage of Cyprus .
In its statement the Commission stated that a decision to list the immovable cultural heritage of Cyprus is taken, so an interactive education program may be launched for the youths of Turkish and Greek Cypriots that will provide them the chance to obtain information on two communities and the cultural heritage of the island.
In the statement, it is stated that two pilot restoration projects will be implemented and Arnavut Mosque and Archangel Michael Church will be restored within this framework, and the projects concerning the said efforts are going to be concluded.
