NEW TURKISH AMBASSADOR PRESENTED HIS LETTER OF CREDENCE

The new Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Sakir Fakılı has arrived in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus . Soon after his arrival, the new Ambassador presented his letter of credence to President Mehmet Ali Talat.

In his speech at the ceremony President Talat said that he was sure that the new Turkish Ambassador shall try his best to help the Turkish Cypriots and the TRNC as the previous ambassadors.

Talat also said that The Republic of Turkey which is always near the TRNC has spent effort together with the TRNC in order to solve the Cyprus problem in the recent years.

Talat stressed that political equality equal status of the two founder states, establishment of a a new partnership state, and Turkey’s guarantee shall be the main principles of a new solution and added : “these are our boundaries”.

Ambassador Fakılı said that reaching a just and permanent solution in Cyprus is the common aim of Turkey and the TRNC. Fakılı also indicated that Turkey supports the negotiation process and insists on the idea that the solution should be based on the settled UN parameters, as the bi-zonality, political equality of the two sides, and equal status of the two founder states and the principle of a new partnership state together with the guarantee of Turkey .

Today, Fakılı will be received by Speaker of the Parliament Fatma Ekenoğlu, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer and the TRNC first President Rauf Denktaş.

The Ambassador will pay visits to the Commander of the Turkish Peace Forces in Cyprus Lieutenant General Hilmi Akın Zorlu and the Commander of the Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Major General Abdullah Recep on the same day.

FLINT IN CYPRUS

British Minister for Europe Caroline Flint is in Cyprus for talks with the two sides on the island. In her two days visit Flint shall meet with President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias separately.

Flint will be received by President Mehmet Ali Talat today at 11:00.

During her stay in Cyprus , the British Minister will also meet with Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot politicians.

TRNC IS SPONSOR OF UK ’S MOST IMPORTANT RALLY “SUNSEEKER”

By the mediation of TRNC Economy and Tourism Ministry, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus becomes one of the sponsors of the ‘Sunseeker 2009’ which is the most important and traditional car rally in the UK .

Rally will take place in Bournemouth in England between the dates of 27-28 February and it will be broadcasted live at SKY TV.

The sponsorship agreement of the mentioned rally was signed yesterday in a press conference organized in Saray Hotel.

This year, it is expected that 35.000 people will watch the rally which is being organized for nearly 20 years.

Placards concerning North Cyprus will be hung and messages as “Visit North Cyprus” will be given in the rally. The winner shall be awarded a two-person holiday opportunity in the TRNC.

RACISTS ATTACK TO THE TURKISH CYPRIOT CEMETERY IN BINATLI

Unidentified people attacked to the Turkish Cypriot Cemetery in Binatli in Limassol on previous day. Greek Cypriot Phileleftheros newspaper published the news with the heading “Vandals attacked to the gravestones” and wrote that 15 of 45 graves were damaged. The news was supported by the photos.

Stating that a Muslim informed the situation to the police, the newspaper pointed out that the Greek Cypriot police focused on the possibility that the attack was realized previously.
