TALAT: CHRISTOFIAS HAS TO PROVE HIS DESIRE FOR THE SOLUTION
President Mehmet Ali Talat stated that the Cyprus problem could only be solved if only the Greek Cypriot Administration Leader prove his will for a solution in Cyprus .
President Talat said that Christofias supported the former Greek Cypriot Leader Papadopulos in wasting the biggest opportunity for a solution and added that rather than calling others to prove their will for a solution he has to prove his will for the solution.
Reminding that the Turkish Cypriot people proved to the world that they were in support of peace and solution of the Cyprus problem President Talat added that Turkey which supported the Turkish Cypriot people in their efforts towards a solution also gave clear support to a settlement.
President Talat stated that they believed that they would solve the Cyprus problem if the Greek Cypriot Side starts to make steps forward.
AVCI MET WITH ROY
Deputy Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister Turgay Avci went to New York for the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly and the annual coordination meeting of the Organization of Islamic Conference and met with the UN under Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations Alain Le Roy.
According to the statement published by the Press Centre of the TRNC Foreign Ministry the meeting took place at the UN Headquarters and Avcı and Le Roy talked about difficulties faced during the operations of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus UNFICYP, the Turkish school planned to be opened in Limasol in South Cyprus, which the Greek Cypriot Administration did not allow and the construction of the Pile-Yigitler road.
Avcı pointed out that the Greek Cypriot primary, middle and high schools are performing freely in Karpaz Region with their 57 students and 20 teachers however Greek Cypriot Administration although made a written promise to the UN Secretary General for the opening of a Turkish school in Limasol in a document issued in 1996, they still do not give the permission for this to happen.
Pointing out that Greek Cypriots are nearly completing the construction work on the roads of Voroklini and Pile, Avcı added that Greek Cypriot side is not giving permission for the construction of the road between the villages of Pile and Yigitler despite several initiatives were taken on the issue in the past.

TRNC Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Turgay Avcı stated that a settlement in Cyprus will be based on a bi-zonal structure with the political equality of the two communities under Turkey ’s active and actual guarantee and added that in order to establish the new partnership state the leadership of Greek Cypriot Administration should give up their “awkward policies”.
According to the press centre of Foreign Ministry, it was stated that Avcı pointed out that the statement of the leader of Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Christofyas in theUN General Assembly put the unfortunate and unacceptable Greek Cypriot opinions forth once again and this would put the negotiation process into deadlock.
Emphasizing that Christofyas denied 1963 bloody Greek Cypriot attacks and claimed that the Cyprus problem has begun in 1974 in his statement, Avcı said “the leader of Greek Cypriot Administration forgot that the peace operation performed within the rights and liabilities granted to Turkey by the international agreements saved lots of his followers including Christofyas.”
TALAT AND CHRISTOFIAS SHALL SPEAK IN PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY OF THE COUNCIL OF EUROPE
It was stated that President Mehmet Ali Talat and the Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Cristofias are going to speak in the General Assembly meetings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe which will start next week.
Talat will address the General Assembly on 1st October and Christofias will address on 30th September and answer the questions of the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. As the TRNC President, firstly, Talat will speak in the General Assembly of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. It is also expected that Talat will come together with the European Council authorities during his contacts in Strasbourg .
After Greek Cypriot side’s refusal of the UN peace plan in the referendum, Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe approved participation of TRNC parliamentarians to the General Assembly and Commission Meetings at an ‘Observer Status’.
PILOT SOLAR ENERGY PLANT PROJECT IN THE TRNC
It was stated that ‘Renewable Energy Seminar’ which was arranged within the framework of European Commission Project to establish a pilot solar energy plant in the TRNC has started last night in Nicosia at the EU Program Support Office.
As well as the European Commission authorities KIB-TEK authorities also participated in the seminar and energy experts from abroad will explain the opportunities and related technologies in renewable energy area.
Pointing out that the island has a big advantage of sunshine; Head of the EU Program Support Office Alain Bothorel said that they started a solar energy project which costs 4 million euro to produce electricity from solar energy.
Alain Bothorel also underlined that this project will be a beginning in the North Cyprus in the renewable energy area.
Adding that they wanted to continue their support for the energy production in the island in harmony with the EU policies, Alain Bothorel said that it is very important for the island to produce electricity from solar energy.
10TH INTERNATIONAL DR. FAZIL KUCUK GAMES GOT UNDERWAY
The 10th International Doctor Fazil Kucuk Games has got underway with a special ceremony in Lefkosa Atatürk Stadium. In the games which have been organized in order to commemorate Turkish Cypriot National Struggle Leader Dr. Fazıl Kucuk, more than 400 athletes from 22 countries will compete in 13 different branches. These branches are athletics games, basketball, billiards, bocce, bicycle, hapkido, football, rifle, squash, tennis, triathlon, wheelchair basketball, and wrestling.
President Mehmet Ali Talat said that they exclaimed once more their will of peace and integration with the rest of the world and called for the lifting of the isolations including the sports isolation which was the most unjust.
The countries, participating in the games, are Germany , Austria , Azerbaijan , Belarus , Bulgaria , Check Republic , Holland , England , Ireland , Scotland , Israel , Jersey , Hungary , Egypt , Moldavia , Nigeria , Poland , Russia , Slovakia , Slovenia , Turkey and the TRNC.
The Games will continue until the 28th of September.
