TALAT “BEHAVIOUR OF GREEK CYPRIOT SIDE IS UNACCEPTABLE”
TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat said “Greek Cypriot side’s demand of obtaining something before sitting at the negotiation table while preparing for the solution negotiations of the Cyprus problem is unacceptable”
Talat stated that acquired rights of the Turkish Cypriot people could not be easily spent, so they would sit at the negotiation table in order to advance these rights. Reminding that the unforeseen dangers that the Turkish Cypriots experienced in 1960-63 and in 1974 could be easily considered when looked at the history, Talat demanded to be understood that the rights acquired in 1960-63 and later on by the Turkish Cypriots were not the things that could be easily spent.
Talat pointed out that security became an important subject in this period that instability and cold war were at the starting point, and added that it was important that Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Commandership should be ready and powerful in order not to experience instability and war atmosphere again in Cyprus which caused thousands of people to suffer in 3-5 days in Caucasus.
Talat emphasized that the rights that Turkish Cypriot people have acquired till today were not easy acquisitions, so they would continue to move towards a comfort and strong negotiation process in a stable atmosphere oriented to security and future which was provided by Cyprus Turkish Security Forces Commandership.
“THEY WANT TO TAKE GUZELYURT, MARAS AND KARPAZ”
Spokesman of TRNC Presidency Hasan Ercakıca stated that Greek Cypriot side and leader of Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Hristofyas wanted to take Guzelyurt, Karpaz and Maras before the negotiations started however this was not possible.
Drawing attention that the Greek Cypriot authorized persons frequently started to talk about the content of negotiations to be started on 3 September, Ercakıca stated that the Greek Cypriot side would want to go ahead more than in the Annan Plan that they voted “no”, however it would be impossible to make an agreement that the Turkish Cypriot people accept such a method.
Ercakıca said “we are in pursuance of providing the solution not in pursuance of having the Greek Cypriot side pay for the cost of saying “no”. However it should not be considered that the Turkish Cypriot people are ready to pay new costs since they voted ‘yes’.”
Ercakıca stated that Turkey or Turkish Cypriot side had not a pose like expecting a base to be given to Turkey in Cyprus , and said “our demand is the protection of the guaranty system.”
SOUTH CYPRUS PROTECTION FOR THE TERRORIST
It has been announced that, Aslan Tayfun Ozkok, one of the chiefs of terrorist organisation DHKP/C, who had been wanted due to many crimes he committed, by Interpol with a red notice, can be reinstituted to Turkey , if only Ankara demands directly from South Cyprus authorities. He was arrested, while he was trying to leave from Larnaka Airport in South Cyprus recently.
According to the Greek Cypriot newspapers, Greek Cypriot Foreign Ministry and police authorities made a meeting on this issue and decided that his restitution can be possible in case of direct demand of Turkey from Greek Cypriot administration. Greek Cypriot media claimed that because such a demand of Turkey means recognition of South Cyprus, such an attempt of Turkey isn’t expected. According to the political experts, thus, the terrorist will be under the Greek Cypriot protection indirectly.
NO PERMISSION TO FOREIGN WORKERS FOR POSITIONS REQUIRING SECONDARY EDUCATION AND UNIVERSITY DEGREE
Ministry of Labour and Social Security announced that they will not give permission to foreign labour force for the positions requiring secondary education and university degree from September on. Adem explained that while the number of registered foreign workers is 32.000, there are still unregistered illegal workers.
The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Sonay Adem emphasized that because of legal loopholes in labour area for years, cheap labour and labour exploitation have increased, but after the registration of workers in his Ministerial period, this problem began to be solved.
From the first days of the Government, they introduced a study in order to register illegal workers as a first stage. He pointed out that they put in force pre-permission as a second stage. Adem stated that pre-permissions will begin to be given on sector basis from September on as a third stage.
Adem said that certificated labour will be encouraged to come to the country; sector will take into account while giving pre-permission which will be given on sector basis. In this context, from September on, permissions will not be given to foreign workers to apply for the positions requiring secondary education and university degree for which there is available local labour.
