“THE PROPOSAL OF GREEK CYPRIOT FOOTBALL FEDERATION IS UNACCEPTABLE”

Spokesman of TRNC Presidency Hasan Ercakıca stated that the invitation of Greek Cypriot Football Federation to the Turkish Cypriot Football Federation to be a member of Greek Cypriot Football Federation was unacceptable and added that the proposal to be prepared would be based on the equal status of two sides.

Pointing out that a common league was organized only in 1950 for a nonrecurring period, Ercakıca expressed that the church did not give permission to the Turkish Cypriot football teams to play in the Greek Cypriot stadiums so they established their own federation.

Spokesman Ercakıca said “Turkish Cypriot Football Federation is a federation which was established in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Cyprus and under the laws and regulations enforced by the Turkish Cypriot Assembly. Greek Cypriot Football Federation is the federation belonging to Greek Cypriots which was established under the laws enforced by the Greek Cypriot Assembly”.

Pointing out that the subject can be associated with the Cyprus problem, Hasan Ercakıca stated that the proposals by the Turkish Cypriot side should be based on the equal status of two sides as it was determined at the meetings of Talat-Hristofyas.

Ercakıca added “Otherwise the membership to the Greek Cypriot Football Federation as they want and opening of the doors to the friendly matches as they propose cannot be acceptable”.

AVCI: ‘STATEMENTS OF HRISTOFIAS AT OLYMPIC GAMES DO NOT REFLECT REALITY’

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Turgay Avcı stated that statements of the Greek Cypriot Administration leader Hristofias made during Olympic Games did not reflect the reality but aimed at being pleasant to the world.

Avcı added that Hristofias did not hesitate to deny the existence of the Turkish Cypriot people, their equal rights and status even during the Olympic Games.

In his written statement, Avcı stated that the flag at the games was a Greek Cypriot flag; never represented the Turkish Cypriot people and the whole world should be aware of that situation. Moreover, Avcı underlined that if Hristofias’s claim, that flag really represented the whole Cyprus then they should explain why there were not any Turkish Cypriot sportsman at Olympic Games.
