ERCAKICA “THE POLICY OF PAPADOPULOS PERIOD IS BACK AGAIN”

Spokesperson of the TRNC Presidency Hasan Ercakıca stated that the meeting on 1 July between the TRNC President Mehmet Ali Talat and the leader of Greek Cypriot Administration Dimitris Christofias would be held with the agenda of starting the comprehensive solution negotiations. Stating that the Greek Cypriot Administration which had gone back to the policy of Papadopulos period desired to start direct negotiations without agreeing on any common base, Ercakıca pointed out that Turkish Cypriot side did not need any preparation for the fully-fledged negotiations.

Ercakıca said “the Greek Cypriot side has no right to dictate new rules and pre-conditions. If we start to violate the agreements which we have already agreed, it will be difficult to advance in this process. Unless we show loyalty to these agreements, we will lose the confidence factor which is the basis for the improvement of the negotiation process.”

Hasan Ercakıca pointed out that Christofias attempted to include the developments in the internal policy of Turkey or his expectations on this subject in the negotiation process and he tried to discuss this subject in his overseas contacts as “the most important problem”. Ercakıca stated that the attempt of Christofias to show Turkey as the addressee of the solution of the Cyprus problem did not mean anything except delaying the solution process.
