PRESIDENT TALAT: “CITIZENSHIP IS NO TOY”
Turkish Cypriot President Mehmet Ali Talat reiterated that their citizens are referred to as “TRNC citizens” (Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus) everywhere and that there is no statutory difference between its citizens. Talat made the comment, “Citizenship is not a toy, and we issue citizenship with accordance to international norms.” In receiving the President of the Cyprus Turkish Immigrants Assistance and Cooperation Association, Enver Dinçoğlu, President Talat commented upon the alarm-causing statements by Greek Cypriot authorities which were to the effect, “A solution will not prevail until immigrant citizens leave.” Expressing that negotiations aim to overcome dilemmas and distress in international relations, Talat reiterated, “This is an issue of reconciliation. We will make sacrifices when necessary but these sacrifices will not violate human rights. There is no need to panic. If we carry this weight, we all shall carry it together.”TOTAL OF 22 INVESTORS APPLY TO YAGA IN MAY
With the aim of evaluating investment issues within various economic sectors, a total of 22 investor organisations have applied in May to the Cyprus Turkish Investment and Development Agency (YAGA). According to the statement produced by YAGA, 9 of the applications were tourism related, 10 applications were in the concerns of industry, 1 application was educationally related while the other 2 applications were of other sectors, 11 of the applications were made from the TRNC, 10 were made from Turkey and 1 application had came from abroad.
