TALAT: “NEGOTIATIONS, LAST CHANCE”

TRNC PRESIDENT TALAT: “NEGOTIATIONS, LAST CHANCE”

Reiterating the aim to commence negotiations in June, President Mehmet Ali Talat characterized these negotiations as a “final chance”. In his conference at the Eurasian Strategic Research Institute (ESRI), Talat stated, “We desire to resolve the Cyprus problem, we contain goodwill, we will do all in our power and we will be optimistic.”

Stating that once the negotiations have commenced, it would be difficult for both sides to depart from the table and added, “It would be difficult to state (We have given up, we end this negotiations procedure, we are leaving the table) because this is now our final chance.” Talat reported that, “According to perceptions of the Greek Cypriots, the most critical problem being ‘permanent division’ has initially been made so apparent and that the possibility for an independent and recognised TRNC has for the first time been talked of within the Greek Cypriot side.”

President Mehmet Ali Talat added: “Our general approach involves two establishing states, a new joint state containing the political equality of the two populaces, for both Turkish and Greek Cypriots to equally partake within international functions, and that the states commencement will mark its ‘initial birth’ .”

Expressing that further disfavoured consequences will prevail in the circumstance that the Greek Cypriot administration was to take over the EU Durative Presidency in 2012 before a comprehensive solution is adopted, President Talat added, “If a solution is not effectively adopted before 2012 and even if no progress is made, then the conclusion that a solution is unattainable may be made. In this circumstance, the international community will again make more thought with their heads in their hands.”
