South Korea’s disgraced stem cell scientist Hwang Woo-suk has resumed cloning research early this month, according to his lawyer Lee Geon-haeng Thursday. Dr. Hwang opened a bio research lab in Kuro, southern Seoul early this month with roughly 30 researchers, most of them junior researchers who have worked with him.
Private supporters funded the silent comeback of Hwang, who hopes to expand his research area to the controversial human embryonic stem cell later. Dr. Hwang appears to think he can establish patient-specific human embryonic stem cells in six months if he is allowed to take up the stem cell research again without barriers.’’
