Dutch asylum seekers, America's image, World Cup soccer security

THURSDAY, MAY 25, 2006

From a security viewpoint it is comforting to know that a state-of-the- art technological system has been set up all over Germany to defend the most watched game on earth ("At World Cup, little left to chance," May 23). But while it is important to secure a series of mechanisms that will guarantee the right to individual privacy, after the latest developments concerning soccer in Italy, the 2006 World Cup may need more attention on the game and its rules rather than on terrorist threats.

It would be nice to know how the organizers intend to manage such a possible crisis.
